Although I've actually met L.K.H and slutty isn't really the first word that comes to mind when you see her in person. Nerdy (yet very strict and proper) h.s. English teacher with a habit of taking off her glasses and chewing on the ends while she is thinking about some passage in Shakespeare. I don't know why she took the series in a noise-dive towards sluttsville, but at least she hasn't fucked up the Faerie series yet.

Yes, that's a good point. But there's no Richard in the Merry series either! Of course I doubt a slutty Anita probably would have been attracted to him in the first place.

Very true. Anita wouldn't have been attracted to Richard is she was a whore to begin with. In some ways I really love Richard, and I totally feel for him, but in other ways... Uggghhh... No man should be more high maintainence than me :D

In Hamilton's blog (http://www.eridine.com/blog/) she explained in an old post
that all the characters in her novels represent
various parts of her personality. Richard represents that part of herself which is always
telling her to get a real job and quit wasting her time making stories about werewolves/vampires/monsters. Grow up and be a normal person. Some fans were thinking he might be her ex-husband which she is crucifying over and over again in print, so she was trying to set the record straight. She has a conflicted love-hate relationship with Richard too.

I mean the self-loathing about being a werewolf was okay for half a novel and I could empathize,...but he's such a huge whiny baby now. I just pull out my hair whenever he steps in. And poor JC is relegated to the role of negotiator between the two.

I know! I totally agree with you...
Richard was tolerable in the beginning, but the whole self-loathing thing is old now, and I think pretty much everyone agrees. I can't stand that he started screwing anything that moves... I actually had some respect for him in the beginning because he had some morals, but now... He and Anita seem to be in some sort of Slut-a-Thon...

He is SO not meant to be a negotiator...
