Qiu Chengwei stabbed Zhu Caoyuan in the chest when he found out he had sold his virtual sword for 7,200 Yuan (£473).

The sword, which Mr Qiu had lent to Mr Zhu, was won in the popular online game Legend of Mir 3.

Attempts to take the dispute to the police failed because there is currently no law in China to protect virtual property.

Yup....that was my reaction. So looks like China might be the first country to adopt some sort virtual property protection laws.

Aren't people supposed to be playing these things to have fun?

no kidding! actually, that's a major reason i quit the gaming; the online trading and the uber!competiveness. it makes it more a chore than something to do to relax.

that is so interesting about virtual property laws

I think it's too much excess testosterone that isn't getting let out because guys are just sitting on their asses in front of a computer screen all day.

I have a friend in Seattle who got out of LARPGing for the same reason. Too many guys joined who were interested in getting together just so they could level up their characters and were into the competitive side of LARPG but not into dressing in costumes and acting out character roles.

I personally don't think people should be protected in the slightest from losing things online. If your're that into a game that you are buying/selling magical items on eBay, then you totally deserve to get taken to the cleaners.

I was talking to Neil though, who said the police in Korea have a special division just for dealing with problems that happen online.

Anyway...things are getting crazy. I guess all those cyberpunk writers were right. I wonder when we'll have the brain jacks! =)

And awwww....you don't want to clash with my color scheme =) That's sweet!

My icons clash with everthing I think (especially the b and w ones). I never actually noticed it before.
