I hate Canada
I came to this realization today in the laundromat, when I had about the 100th Canadian quarter rejected by the laundry machine since I first moved up here. Why do they do that?!? Why make a quarter that feels almost identical to an American quarter?
I'm saving them in a mason jar. I don't know what I'm going to do once it's full. Maybe Fed Ex it to their Prime Minister with a note: "Enough is enough. On behalf of the entire country, I apologize for Iraq and Anne Coulter and Wal-Mart and the American Revolution. Now could you please stop making quarters?"
When I was living in Iowa as a kid, we had Minnesota to the north of us acting as a filter for all the Canadian money. Occassionally one would sneak through, and everyone would laugh about it. But now, it seems as though every fourth damn quarter I get in change comes from the great white north!
Strong measures need to be taken.
I wonder if there are Canadians bitching about their American quarters being rejected by their laundry machines? I bet their laundry machines are keyed to accept US currency.
Sneaky bastards.

Actually, I used to see Canadian money all the time, but rarely do now. I'm not sure why that is. It's not because we moved farther from the border, we're now closer, and our town's primary tourist trade consists of people from Canada. Maybe I'm just really lucky?
Does WA accept Canadian currency? I know MT doesn't.

Some businesses don't.
I haven't tried it yet in Spokane...so I don't know if it's universal or just a small town thing.
Another thing I get a lot of around here is $2 bills and Susan B Anthony coins. This whole area seems to act as some weird nexus for all the strange currency in the country to flock to.

And, um, I can't speak for all of Canada, but yeah, last time I was there (up near Edmundton), the machines I encountered took both US and Canadian coinage. And didn't give a fair exchange rate either. You're right. They're sneaky bastards.
