Before I say anything at all in my new LiveJournal, I have to
give a shout out to the totally awesome [info]katekat1010
for designing the fucking gothiest darkest live journal background ever! =)

So the big news that is going on in my life right now - I am finally
being let out of the box to teach an actual math course.
YIPPPPPPY!!!!!!!! Math 210....the final penultimate course
a typical liberal arts student is required to take to satisfy
their math requirement.

I'm not sure if I was ever in the box....but it was kind of a
let down to be given huge stacks of papers to grade when
I had been used to teaching my own classes for two years
prior to getting here.

Since it's a required course - I am wondering just how
big the class might be. I am currently grading
for a math 201 course that has 120 students in it.
I am hoping if it's any bigger than that they give me
one grader or even two. Pretty sure they will. Most
of the grad students have received grading assignments
for the summer so I am hoping one of them will be reserved
for me =)

I am also going to need more math professor clothes.

I think I am going to throw a raging margarita
and white russian party at my place at the end
of final's week. The thing that sucks about living
alone is that when everyone wants to meet at
a bar....I have to drive my ass there and drive
back so I have to monitor the drinking. And I am
in the mood to get fucking trashed....so the only option
is to get everyone here and get them drunk as well. And
I have a spare bedroom and air mattress for anyone who can't
make it home.

Woot! Awesome LJ layout. Very purty. Happy first post (at least on my flist)!

Congrats on the assignment. Final Penultimate? *tries to get brain to wrap 'round that*.

I am also going to need more math professor clothes.

I was going to make a mention of suit jackets with the elbow patches, tho' it occurs to me that none of my math profs have worn any such things; most just wear baggy jeans and ratty T-shirts; it's like the official uniform of my math dept.

Cool! You are the first comment in my LJ!

Math professors dress like slobs. Also I think there is impression among math people that the bigger hair you have in math - the smarter you must be =) Thank god for Einstein. If he had been more formal dresser - I might be shopping for a suit right now.

My typical uniform consists of rock climbing pants, a hawaiian t-shirt,
and birkenstocks. During the summer. Also those weird math t-shirts are kind of cool to wear (the ones with Maxwell's equations or the Mathematica
t-shirts).

Unfortunately I had math professors in college that also forgot to shower for like weeks. So in small classroom - the smell could get to be toxic.
