Actually I lied a little. I grew up calling Coke "soder pop" but quickly changed my ways once I moved out to California. Just like couches are no longer davenports to me. And Suisse Mocha - pronounced it Sussy Mocha until I was 10. My mom still pronounces it that way.

Davenports? Oh man! I've not used that term in ages! My mom still uses it on occasion. My problem with that test is that I use so many words so interchangably, that I couldn't even think of which I used the most.

Where are you from (pre-CA), btw?

~e!

I am from Iowa originally

Around the area of Sioux City. Also known as "SOOOOOEEEEEE" City (you know...like when you call hogs =) ). Sioux City is famous far and wide for it's wonderful smelling slaughter houses.

Anyway, we moved to California when I was 14....because my dad got laid off from work and my mom couldn't find a nursing job that paid more than 7/hr in any of the small towns. I think that's part of reason I have negative view of Iowa. California treated my family much better =)

It's a very interesting test though, because it doesn't distinguish between Californian and "General American English" and, although it's probably closer to the general, because of the whole movie business, I think there are still differences. And what about NewYorker? Is their linguistic profile yankee? (those are rhetorical questions, btw, unless you happen to know then answers).
