Watching the Queen arriving at Parliament (in her royal coach) on the BBC. And I thought golf was boring. Golf has got absolutely nothing on the Queen. God I'm glad we had a revolution over here.

Anyway...BBC announcers are currently reciting a litany of traditions and formalities that need to be followed when the Queen shows up to address Parliament (developed over CENTURIES upon CENTURIES of bloody war and revolutions and beheadings). All seemingly created for the express purpose of fooling the Queen into believing she still has power and is really important and stuff. Why I do not know. Perhaps to not hurt her feelings?

The traditions governing the relationship of the House of Lords with the House of Parliament is even more convoluted and confusing. I thought the House of Lords was like the Senate over here. But NO - they don't have shit in the way of power either. So why do they give long-ass boring speeches and wear long wigs and robes? Who fucking knows. Because they're British?
