Since I have started browsing through job listings on Dice and in Craigslist for Seattle - they have by far been one of the leading posters of jobs for software development engineers and positions even higher up on the corporate food chain (like project managers and VPs and others of their ilk).
And I find weird postings like this one today in Craigslist:

  • We are looking for engineers with the ability to build high-end, scalable, high-tech-intensive delivery solutions.
  • Experience in C++ or Java is critical, as is experience with HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
  • The ideal candidate will show a strong sense of ownership, bias for action, and an ability to work with many other teams to build innovative customer-centric offerings.

The last qualification is what got me - because I'm not really sure what it means. Perhaps they meant to say "We are looking for people who aren't wimps and are willing to stand up for themselves and their team"? Strong sense of ownership? What the hell is that supposed to mean? I suspect part of the problem is that the job posting was placed by someone for whom those character attributes most definitely do not apply. And at the same time they want someone who must be diplomatic enough to work with all their other teams that might be doing fuck-all and be run by total ass-munches. So don't rock the boat...cuz yeah. But be willing to act to do your thing. Bias for action? What is that supposed to mean for a software developer that sits on his ass the whole day programming?
