Childcare Action Project: Christian analysis of American culture....
Check out this review of Addam's Family Values:
Addams Family Values was by all means not a movie fromwhich to emulate proper family values. The whole movie was based oncultural and ethnic pretense of unholy authority, the humorous settingnotwithstanding. Any Christian should find the movie particularlyupsetting and above all should not let their children watch it, 13years old or otherwise....
So Addam's Family Values gets a CAP score of 56. Amazingly enough....Alien vs Predator gets a CAP score of 73. And check their reasoning on this one:
There were also seven uses of the three/four letter word vocabulary and two uses of the most foul of the foul words which is likely the reason for the PG-13 rating, none of which were needed in any way. There was also one use of God's name in vain without the four letter expletive. If this movie is closed-captioned, a curse filter should take care ofthe language problem. But there was not one issue of consumption of illegal drugs or smoking tobacco nor one issue of sexual immorality noted.
I have my own test regarding how harmless movies are for kids. If you suspect that seeing the movie after three hits of really good acid might send you into therapy for the next couple of years, then it's probably not a good idea to take your 10 year old to it. Aliens exploding from people's chests and ripping people apart probably qualifies. But I feel fairly confident I could cope with Addam's Family Values even in the middle of a really bad trip. It might even be kind of soothing =)
