I was kind of suprised that I could hear it. When I was in college, I used to regularly burn out headphones listening to heavy metal.
There are a lot of math/physics teachers I have had that won't even make eye contact with their students. They just mumble with their back turned to the class and write equations on the board. So in classes like that, yeah...you can get away with anything...even surfing wirelessly on your laptop.
