Online predators
Mar. 9th, 2007 08:41 pmWatched my first public service announcement about online predators. They had a sweet innocent little 16 year old girl looking all vulnerable and violated, and then flashed to this older guy in his late 20s describing how he totally manipulates girls online so he can hook up with them: "It's so easy man. They feel safe with chatting and they're insecure and seeking approval...." And I am wondering the same thing I always wonder when those genital herpes commercials come on. You know - where the couple is all huggy and dreamy and the guy says: "I have genital herpes" and his gf beams up at him like him having genital herpes is the coolest thing in the world says: "And I don't." And he says: "And we're trying to keep it that way!" What I am wondering is what the conversation between the actor and his agent who got him that gig was like.
Agent: "Ummm....I have an...opportunity you might be interested in. It'll give you national exposure and may lead to bigger parts."
Poor Unemployed actor: "COOL! What is it?"
Agent: "Can you play a sex predator that preys on underage girls online?"
Poor Unemployed actor: "A what?"
Agent: "Sex predator? Underage girls? You've got the look. And you'd totally be doing a service to your country."
Poor Unemployed actor: <*sound of head slamming into table*>
Agent: "Hello?"
Poor Unemployed actor: *sobs* - "I PLAYED SHAKESPEARE in college! I was BRILLIANT!"
