Made the observation that since Disney is making the movie, they wanted to make it more suitable for American audiences. A lot of the jokes in Hitchikers are clever wordplay and really REALLY dry British humor, which I guess they felt would make most Americans scratch their head in befuddlement.
And if they wanted to be true to the original, all they had to do was cut and paste the dialogue exactly. It was originally aired on the radio. Just add visuals and you're good to go. But apparently it was too complex.
The thing is - only fucking geeks are going to go to this thing. That is their target audience. They don't even need killer special effects like MIB to make it sell. Low budget would actually be better. But no....they wanted to go for big Hollywood action blockbuster....
Anyway...I guess I should shut up until I actually see it. But that review was pretty damning. I think I'll wait until it comes out on DVD.
Some poster on Slashdot...
