Soldier boys...
all over the community center this morning when I went to go running. Something to do with their training and needing to use the community pool to practice swimming. There were a few older men there and I guess they outranked the other ones because every time one of them walked past the little soldiers would get really still and salute. I mention this because I went into the locker room and I walked past one of them and ignored him and he looked like he was going to tear my head off before realizing I was a civilian.
Anyway - there was a lot of pointless running around - and stopping quickly to come to attention before one of the officers. Then more running around and shouting. Then they all boarded school buses and went away. And they were all wearing hot heavy camos and combat boots, and really heavy packs. It looked really unpleasant and thorougly pointless. I don't know how anyone puts up with it. I don't know how my sister put up with it during her basic training.
And my sister is in the real military. These poor National Guardsmen are treated like crap and completely expendable machine parts when they go over to Iraq by the regular military.
